Instructors: Nancy C. Winters, MD & Kathy Reicker, LCSW

This course will introduce you to Field Theory, an exciting development in contemporary psychoanalysis in which the unconscious fantasies and forces created between the therapeutic couple are conceptualized as an intersubjective field that does not belong to either individual.  We will cover several different psychoanalytic field theories, including post-Bionian and the interpersonal/ intersubjective in North America. Using clinical material throughout, this six-session course will acquaint you with nuances of various field theories with readings by Madeleine and Willy Baranger, Antonino Ferro, Giuseppe Civitarese, Thomas Ogden, Donnell Stern, and others.

Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1.Discuss different emphases in post-Bionian and interpersonal/ intersubjective field theories.
2. Apply one of the field theories to a clinical case vignette.
