Neuroscientists are asking psychoanalytic questions, and psychoanalysts/psychotherapists are more interested in what new knowledge might inform their practice. Led by Mark Solms, a psychoanalyst and neuroscience researcher, the field of neuropsychoanalysis is coming into its own. Reading from Dr. Solms’ 2015 book The Feeling Brain: Selected Papers on Neuropsychoanalysis, we will focus on special areas of interest, including memory, emotions, and consciousness/unconscious. Psychoanalytic case illustrations will help us explore these cross-currents. Educational Objectives At the end of the class, the student will be able to: 1. Discuss two areas of neuroscience research relevant to psychoanalysis and psychotherapy 2. Describe a specific application of neuroscience to his/her practice
